“In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him
’til he cried out in his anger and his shame
I am leaving, I am leaving, but the fighter still remains
Yes he still remains”
from "The Boxer" ,written by Paul Simon
I woke up this morning with this song in my mind and couldn’t figure out why. It then dawned on me that DeBunkem’s departure day is today.
Abe, I don’t know if you will see this or not, but I just want to thank you once more for sharing your poetry, your wit, and educating me on the history that you love so much. I have garnered a respect for your ability with words, and can only hope to one day be as proficient as you.
The fighter will always remain, DeBunkem
Peace, wayf
