An old Zen story:

A student went to his meditation teacher and said, "My meditation is horrible! I feel so distracted, or my legs ache, or I'm constantly falling asleep. It's just horrible!"

 

"It will pass," the teacher said matter-of-factly.

 

A week later, the student came back to his teacher. "My meditation is wonderful! I feel so aware, so peaceful, so alive! It's just wonderful!'

 

"It will pass," the teacher replied matter-of-factly.

We feel a need to know the answers to everything. We want to know how and why things work; where it all started and where it’s going to end. We focus so much energy on the intricate details of the workings of it all we neglect to look at the simplicity with which it all gets done.

 

 

 

 

As I stand in a clearing looking at a calm flowing stream and hearing the wildlife in the forest around me, I realize that the importance of it all lies not in how it is working……..

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

but, just that it works.

The one constant is this:

 

Things will always be just as they are
